About me & Love Sewing

Love Sewing began life as a magazine, a place where makers could pause with a cup of tea, flip through inspiring projects, and feel that familiar spark that comes from fabric, color, and possibility. Over time, the publishing chapter came to an end. The name, though, still carried warmth for a lot of sewists who remembered it as a friendly corner of the sewing world.

Me visiting Venice, Italy.

Today, LoveSewing.com is that corner again, with a new purpose and a new pace. I am JC, the new owner, and I believe the best way to honor the Love Sewing legacy is to keep people making. That means practical sewing tips, approachable guidance, and a growing library of patterns so you always have something exciting lined up for your next session at the machine.

The heart of the site is simple. Sewing should feel doable. Sewing should feel rewarding. Sewing should feel like you belong.

My Story

I did not discover sewing through a trend or a quick weekend craft kit. Sewing found me early, in the way it often does, through family and everyday life.

Some of my first memories are from my mother’s small workshop. It was not fancy. It was functional, busy, and full of stories. There were paper patterns folded and refolded, a pin cushion that always seemed to be missing a pin, and fabric scraps that looked like treasure to a curious child. I would wander in, trailing my fingers along the rolls of cloth and watching how a flat piece of fabric could become something useful and beautiful. My mother sewed for the family, repaired what could be repaired, and made garments that carried a quiet pride. It was creative work with a purpose, and it made a lasting impression.

As I grew older, I started sewing small things for myself, then for friends, then for anyone who said, “You made that?” with a look of surprise. I learned the joy of a clean seam, the patience of unpicking a mistake, and the confidence that comes when a garment finally fits the way it should. Sewing became my way of understanding clothing from the inside out. Not just style, also structure. Not just trends, also craft.

That curiosity led me to study textiles and design. I wanted to understand fibers, drape, weave, and the relationship between fabric choice and final result. I learned how garments are developed, how patterns are drafted, and why the smallest construction detail can transform the look and feel of a piece. It was equal parts art and engineering, and I loved both sides.

After school, I worked with several companies in the sewing and design space. Some roles were hands-on, others were more behind the scenes. I supported product teams, assisted with pattern development, and helped turn ideas into instructions that real people could follow at home. Those years gave me a clear view of what sewists actually need. They need patterns that are exciting and realistic. They need instructions that respect their time. They need advice that feels human, not intimidating.

Most of all, they need a steady source of inspiration that does not disappear the moment the project gets tricky.

Why this website exists

Love sewing
With my husband, Ian.

Over the years, I became the person friends would message when they wanted a pattern suggestion, a fabric recommendation, or a simple answer to a surprisingly complex question. I also developed a personal habit that many sewists will recognize. I collected patterns. A lot of patterns.

Some were classics. Some were modern. Some were perfect for beginners, others were the kind you save for a weekend when you feel brave. I bookmarked, organized, compared, and kept notes. When I found something worth making, I would test it on my own machine, tweak the fit, change the finishing, and make it my own. I sewed garments for myself and for others, and each project taught me something new.

At some point, the collection stopped feeling like a private stash and started feeling like a resource. I had gathered so many great options, and I knew how hard it can be to find the right pattern when you are motivated and ready to sew. That is when the idea became a plan. I wanted a place that made pattern hunting easier and more fun, a site that also teaches you something along the way.

When the opportunity came to take over LoveSewing.com, it felt like the right home for that vision. The name already meant something to sewists. It already carried a sense of community. I saw it as a chance to continue the spirit of Love Sewing, with a fresh focus on patterns, practical guidance, and real making.
